My Accra - who makes the rules and who keeps them?

Filth has been the Capital City's main problem since the day it lost control of its population. The Accra Metropolitan Assembly and the central government have been in a tango when responsibility of this problem is mentioned.

Whiles the AMA is blaming the goverrnment for beirng non-responsive to its requests, the accused is blaming the AMA for not being ableto offset a debt of well-over ¢120 million (Gh¢12,000), to solid waste contractors, whose duty it is to make sure that every citizen of Ghana lives in a clean environment th. This amount is as a result of accumulated debts over a very long period.

Who is to blame for this mess? Is it the Government, the AMA or the people who break the rules?

Its not really so encouraging. It gets worse during certain parts of the year. I just ask myself if there is anybody in charge of these problem. You know there was a whole ministry dedicated to the beautification of our city...what did it do?

I am sometimes amazed at the kind of filth we generate as a people. We need not pay anyone to manage the filth if we don't make it in the first place.

the Govt, AMA and the people should know that waste and dirt is created everyday, however, those in charge of managing it should be up and doing

The government is always on TV asking the citizens to keep the city clean. Yet sometimes one walks miles without getting access to a single bin. How! I am not justifying the filth though

Hey Edward!
Wonderful to hear from you and glad you came across the blog. AFRICA? That's quite a trip, but I am glad you made it to the states to witness such a profound event as the inauguration. It was moving in so many ways.
Thanks a lot!!
